Product Feature: Tea Towels and the Ladies of More Than Sparrows

Who doesn’t love a good tea towel? And when I can get a tea towel that is a) super absorbent b) looks like a cute, retro/vintage piece of art and c) supports an amazing organization?

That’s it.

Game over.

Take my money.

Such is the case with the darling tea towels carried in Hope Artisan Collective and made by the talented ladies of More Than Sparrows in Rwanda. I recently gave one of these beauties to my mom as a gift. She looked at it and said, “But…it’s too pretty to use!”

I’d say she’s partially right. they are lovely. Each towel has a unique design. Some are bordered with Rwandan fabric. All have appliquéd birds made out the same fabric and detailed embroidery. The sweetness level of these towels is off the chart!

But the sweetest thing about them is the fact that they are made by women looking to carve out a better life and future for themselves and their families. More Than Sparrows is an organization based in Rwanda’s capital city, Kigali. They employ 23 at-risk women - women who have been victims of sex trafficking, who have suffered from isolation and marginalization - and teach them sewing and embroidery skills. The organization is based on scripture found in Matthew 10:31:

“So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows”

The ladies working for More Than Sparrows are assured…there is inherent value in you.

Just as you are.

Regardless of what has happened in your past.

You are precious.

Beloved.

How can we NOT support an organization that so closely aligns with the values and vision of Handspun Hope?

So…if you are looking for a way to say “I love you” to the moms or mom figures in your life, consider buying one…or two…or twelve…of these sweet towels. Whether she decides to use it (and she should…they wash and dry like a dream!) or display it, it will serve as a lovely reminder to her of how valued she is, by you and by God.

Cheers to shopping for good!
